FIRST MOVES:

Top fighters will tell you that leg locks are the moves that can change the fight in one second flat.  Knowing how to use the legs for submissions, reversals and to frustrate your opponent is their "ace in the hole."  That is why they keep their best set up's, counters, reversals and leg submissions to themselves.

As a fighter you have to have both a recognition that you can attack your opponents legs and that your legs are also vulnerable.  If you are new to Brazilian Jujitsu or Submission Fighting you will find that your more experienced training partners will often use leg locks.  This is often done because the more experienced fighters knows you are not experienced defending leg attacks.

A leg lock, ankle lock, heel hook, toe hold or other leg attack is often very painful.  One of the first things that you must understand is that they are also dangerous.  If a lock is done correctly very strong forces can be put on the tendons and ligaments in your legs, foot and ankle.  Just like with every martial art there is no shame to TAP early.

The first step to learning leg locks is to become familiar with the way the legs, hips, ankles, feet and hips move.  If you do not understand basic anatomy you will become very frustrated later when your leg attacks don't work.  Remember you are trying to submit and tap your opponent by attacking the biggest, strongest part of his body...his legs.  You have to have correct and proper technique applied to the correct part of your opponents body.

YOUR TRAINING GOAL OF THE WEEK:

Tip #1:
Remember this:  Correctly setting up the leg lock is more important than trying the leg lock.  If you do not correctly set up the move you will most likely end up in a bad position.  Bad positions = taking a ass whipping.

Train Hard, Never Quit

YOUR TRAINING QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

"If you practice a move 1000 times....that is a good start"

"If you practice a move 10,000 times....you are getting close"

"If you practice a move your entire life...you just may get it right"
